AMERICA'S HERO'S RUMBLE IN THE ROCKIES

DENVER, CO (Inside Boxing May 24, 2002) - New York Police and Firemen have arrived in Mile High City of Denver, Colorado, they are here to fight but they won't be fighting criminals or putting out fires. Instead they are here to fight Denver police officers and Firemen... Literally! Tonight at the Colorado Convention Center New York Police and Firefighters will lace up the gloves and engage in pugilistic battle against Denver Police and Firemen. The Denver team will be in the Blue corner while New York's finest will frequent the Red corner. Eleven bouts are scheduled and patrons are in for an evening of action packed entertainment. The boxing contests are part of a fundraising effort which will include a Golf Tournament, "Freedom Ring Invitational" sponsored by Denver Councilman Ed Thomas and the Denver Athletic Club. The proceeds will be donated to charities listed below in New York and Denver. New York's UFA Widows and Children's Fund: This fund works with families of fallen firefighters killed in the line of duty. Their assistance is important with helping paying bills, funeral expenses, medical expenses not covered by insurance and supporting the children that are left behind. New York's Bravest Scholarship Fund: This scholarship fund was set up by the grandson of a fallen fire fighter that died in 1943. Until two years ago, there were no scholarship funds available for children of fallen fire fighters. Since there inception two years ago, they have granted 18 scholarships. Each child receives $1,000 per year for college. They are required to apply for the scholarship and must provide SAT scores to be considered. Denver Police Brotherhood: This is an employee organization of the Denver Police Department that focuses first on officer training whether it's going to college or any kind of schooling and second, athletics. Denver Police Officers are sent to the Police Olympics and the Brotherhood also sponsors their boxing club. The Brotherhood is proud to be the only organization within the Denver Police Department that works with youth of the City and County of Denver. To date they have had over 500 youth participate in their program. Denver Police Officers Foundation: This charity is dedicated to supporting the families of police officers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty. With the vital help of the foundation, police officers' families are better equipped to cope with medical expenses resulting from on-the-job injuries and or the loss of a loved one who gave his or her life in the line of duty.
Denver Fire Fighters Protective Association Relief Fund: This new charity was established as a result of a fire fighter having cancer and needing financial help. Because there were no funds available to help those in need, a Golf tournament was established and from there the relief fund evolved. The distribution of money has been taken over by the Fire Fighters wives organization called the "Hearts of Fire". Their charitable organization is under the umbrella of the Denver Fire Fighter Protective Association Relief Fund.
The line up for Friday nights event will pair, in order:
