KENNY ELLIS MOVES TO 3RD IN WORLD BOXING RANKING

(July 16, 2003) - The "Emerald City Assassin" Kenny Ellis (30-4-2 19KOs) moves a step closer to a world title fight. In the July 2003 WBO rankings Ellis made his way into the top three. In June he was ranked 4th, but his 4th round KO of Antoine Robinson (22-6) on May 31st at the Emerald Queen Casino was the push he'd been waiting for that advanced him into 3rd.

Champion:

HECTOR VELAZCO, ARG

1. Bert Schenk, GER

2. Cristian Sanavia, ITA

3. Kenny Ellis (NABO), USA

4. Robert Allen, USA

<5. Felix Sturm, GER

6. Erick Mitchell, USA

7. Wayne Elcock, GB

8. Jermain Taylor, USA

9. Armand Krajnc, SWD

10. Mariano Carrera (Latino), ARG

"This is very exciting for us," said promoter Brian Halquist. "We hope to keep up our momentum and advance to a shot at the title against champion Hector Velazco. The Boxing scene is heating up in the Pacific Northwest," Halquist said.

"I was at a stoplight on my cell phone. A car full of women was next to me and when I found out about my ranking I actually got a little emotional. I have been working so hard with two workouts a day and have been so focused lately that it seems unreal," Ellis said. "I feel like I am having my coming out party on ESPN2 August 29th, 2003 for the world to see".

Ellis will be headlining The Battle of the Boat XXIII, August 29th, 2003. The show will be televised nationally on ESPN2. An opponent for the fight will be announced within the week.Calif.
