BOXING IN THE BRONX ENDS SUMMER WITH A BANG
Light Heavyweight Contender David Telesco to Headline August 8 Show
NEW YORK, August 5 - Sixteen boxers - all with the same goal: to win a world title. On Friday, August 8, Sal Musumeci's Final Forum Inc. and Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing present an evening of professional boxing in which each of these 16 fighters will look to move closer to achieving their dreams in the toughest sport in the world.
This eight bout card, the latest installment of Boxing in The Bronx, which is held at the world famous Jimmy's Bronx Café, begins at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:30pm.
Headlining the August 8 show is no stranger to the heights of the boxing world. World-rated light heavyweight David Telesco (27-3-1, 22 KOs) returns to fight in his home state for the first time in almost two years when he battles veteran Danny Garcia (30-22, 21 KOs) in an eight rounder.
Telesco, a native of Port Chester, is a former title challenger, having gone 12 rounds with current heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. Since that 2000 bout, Telesco is unbeaten, with former USBA champion Julian Letterlough among his victories. He is currently ranked sixth in the world by the WBA and WBO.
Popeye Garcia, who hails from Puerto Rico, has been in with boxing's best over his 20-year career. Roy Jones Jr. James Toney, John David Jackson, Otis Grant, and Manny Siaca are just a sampling of the standouts who have thrown hands with Garcia over the years, and the veteran is looking for the upset on Friday night.
And while the main event is bound to produce fireworks, the undercard won't lack for action.
In a four round junior lightweight bout, two unbeaten 130-pounders will try to pin a loss on the other before the always appreciative Jimmy's Bronx Café crowd. Alberto DeJesus Trinidad (5-0, 3 KOs) puts his clean slate on the line against 2-0 Jose Cardenas. Someone's "0" must go.
Another tough junior lightweight, hard-hitting Pasqual Rouse (12-8-2, 8 KOs), will be in action in a six round contest against Ramon Disla (5-11-1, 3 KOs).
Always entertaining light heavyweight Ariel Espinal (4-2-1, 1 KO) is planning on giving debuting Alex Mancera a rude welcome to the pro ranks in a four rounder. If Mancera can get by the aggressive Espinal, his team has high hopes for him in the sport.
A featured six round junior welterweight matchup between Edgar Santana (7-2, 5 KOs) and Ben Wagaba (3-6-1) will undoubtedly show what New York boxing is all about, as both come to fight and give their all, no matter who is in the other corner.
Highly touted Joey Rios (4-0, 3 KOs), a 140-pounder who is building quite a local following, squares off against Raul Llopis (2-6-3) in a bout scheduled for four.
Rounding out the card will be two four rounders, with bantamweights Jose Rolon (1-0) and Michael Agard (0-1) battling it out, and debuting middleweight Tarek Rached taking on P.A. Manjie Conteh (1-0, 1 KO).
