DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS "BROADWAY BOXING" FEATURING EMMANUEL CLOTTEY VS. JESUS SANTIAGO IN MAIN EVENT ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, AT CROWNE PLAZA TIMES SQUARE
November 13, 2003
Brother acts are not a rarity in boxing. There have been the brothers Spinks - Michael and Leon - Buddy and Max Baer, and most recently the Klitshcko brothers (Vitaly and Wladimir). But it is unusual for two brothers to be fighting on the same card, and that will happen on Friday night, November 21, when Emmanuel Clottey, making his first ring appearance since a sensational knockout victory over Olympic gold medalist Muhammed Abdullaev, will headline "Broadway Boxing" presented by DiBella Entertainment at the Crowne Plaza Times Square, right in the heart of New York City. His younger brother Joshua Clottey will appear on the same card.
Clottey (20-5, 14 KO's), who hails from Accra, Ghana, which has produced the likes of former champions Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey, will square off against Jesus Santiago (8-5-1, 1 KO) in a 12-round bout for the IBA Continental Americas Junior Welterweight Championship. HDNet will broadcast the fight card on a delayed basis in High Definition. Corona and Everlast will sponsor the event. Clottey, 29, fights out of the Bronx and trains at the legendary Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn, stunned the boxing world with a tremendous knockout triumph over Abdullaev on June 3 at Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino which was televised live on ESPN/2. The world-ranked (#9 BO) Josua Clottey, 26, has reeled off four straight wins and will be making his United States debut. Clottey's only career setback was a controversial disqualification loss to controversial disqualification loss to Carlos Manuel Baldomir at Wembley Arena in London on November 29, 1999.
Tickets are priced at $200 for ringside and V.I.P. party, which will be attended by legendary Micky Ward; $100 for ringside; and $75 and $50 for reserved seating, and $35 for general admission. Tickets are available by calling DiBella Entertainment at 212-332-6950.
