USA Boxing is the governing body that regulates all amateur boxing in the United States. The rule book they have created applies to everything related to gym ownership, athletes’ registrations, local, regional, national, and international amateur boxing competitions. It also mandates specific equipment to be used in any USA Boxing sanctioned event. All amateur competition gloves and headgear are required to bear a USA Boxing Approved label that proves its authenticity. This does not apply to competition mouthpieces, hand wraps, groin protectors, chest protectors, or competition uniforms, but all must be protective and help prevent potential injury or bodily harm. Tape and gauze are used for hand wrapping at most tournaments and must meet USA Boxing’s exact specifications and guidelines. Event and tournament supplies, such as boxing rings, timers, and accessories also follow exact specifications established by USA Boxing. All rules and regulations are in accordance with the organization’s National Rulebook.

USA Boxing requires that all gyms, coaches, and athletes follow their strict guidelines to improve the standards of competitions, conditions of tournaments, and even expand the education of coaches.

USA Boxing offers a certification program for all active coaches who participate in the sport. This is provided to create uniformity in coaching, boxing safely, proper nutrition, and physical education. USA Boxing coaches are required to maintain their certification and athletes must be registered each year. That is one way that USA Boxing tracks each boxer and coach and their activity in competitions throughout their amateur careers.

All USA Boxing officials must also be registered through the organization and go through their own training course to officiate, judge, or referee any amateur boxing matches. These officials, referees, and judges all follow a specific code of conduct to help keep the athletes and participants safe throughout all boxing competitions.
