A boxing timer is not only necessary for keeping track of your rounds, the time you spend doing each exercise, time on the bag or in sparring, but it can also be used to develop certain cardiovascular aspects of your game.

The way you use a timer for boxing can greatly impact your training, endurance, intensity, and ability to dictate the pace of a fight.

Many gyms set their boxing timer at a standard three-minute round length and one minute rest period. That’s great for most fighters, however there are ways to alter that approach so you will be better prepared for the demands of each type of event.

Setting your boxing timer to longer rounds with shorter rests in between can increase a fighter’s ability to perform at a harder work rate and requires him or her to recover more quickly in between rounds. Using your gym timer to force your muscular and cardiovascular endurance to adapt encourages growth. Then, in final preparations for competition, set the timer to the actual round/rest lengths that will be used, and it will all be easier to perform.

Another way to use your gym timer to its fullest potential is by incorporating interval training. This type of training is where you set your timer to sound periodically to signal an immediate, substantial increase in your work rate. That way, each round consists of a series of bursts of intense work, followed by a few seconds of slower, more methodical moments. This helps replicate the type of back-and-forth, sporadic action that most bouts consist of. This training method is fantastic preparation for actual competition and any interval timer would have this basic function built in.

There are many ways to strategically make your boxing timer work for you and with you, other than simply counting your rounds.

FAQs

Gym timers are great for large class use, individual timing, and just to set round lengths and number of rounds. This is good for a fighters overall training, endurance, and to track progress.

This varies somewhat on the item itself and how it’s taken care of. We know some customers have had our times in their gym for years without any issues. Like anything though, you can get a faulty one and we do offer a warranty if it’s within a certain period of time from purchase date.

Most of our timers have 1 volume setting.

We have multiple options and it’s honestly hard to say which is our best. We have some nice digital timers, some basic timers that just have round length, number of rounds, and break times between rounds. We do have some best sellers.
